Birds

I've always loved birds. When I was a little girl, I used to sit outside, watch them and listen to their calls. I loved mimicing them and I would often be able to get owls to fly into our cherry tree at night. I also kept a notebook on them, writing down what I saw them do, their colors, and their nesting habits. I guess I was a young birdwatcher, and I still enjoy that to this day. I have had quite a few pet birds, keets, Lovebirds, finches, Parrotlets, and an African Grey. I don't have any now. They really do take a lot of care and with the dogs, I just can't do both and divide my time up enough without neglecting other things I don't want to neglect....if that makes sense at all!!! Plus, my husband didn't like the noise they made in our sunroom when he went out there to read or to enjoy the room...soooo that put an end to my bird hobby.
I loved the colors of the Lady Gouldian finches...isn't this a gorgeous one? I had the red and blue ones as well.
Here is a shot of my son with my little Lovebird a few years back. Quazi was the sweetest bird. They can be nasty as pets, but he never ever bit anyone and he was as tame as could be. I gave him to a lady with a Cockatiel. I hope he's still living.
Next is a photo of my CAG...Congo African Grey, Jozie. She was a character. She could say so many words and was too smart for her own good! She loved the dogs, but she was very dusty, and it would make me constantly clear my throat. I gave her to a friend of mine and she lives very happily in an enormous victorian cage in her sunroom Here she is looking at my sweet Lacey...they were good friends. She bit me a few times, once on the nose when I was singing to her...shows what a good singer I am, huh? I never did that again, so she got her way!

Now, I just feed the wildbirds. I still have two cages in our sunroom, and I do miss all my birds, but not the seed all over the floor!! They are beautiful and a lot of fun, but a lot of work and responsibility as well.

I had a very large deck across the back of our house when we lived in Big Pine and on one end of it was a cage.We had finches and canaries, I loved their song. You are right about birds requiring a lot of care. I gave mine up for the cats.

This is such a nice post! I also love birds. They're so wonderful to watch.
I have a friend in Washington who takes his birdwatching rather seriously. He often travels to other countries to see a rare bird. Amazing...
We have lots of interesting wild birds here but I don't know their names. They certainly are lovely.
