I have decided to keep an art journal this year. It's my "Anything Goes" journal. I went to Barnes & Noble and found this great media notebook, bigger than the moleskins and has nice thick watercolor paper.
I had almost given up hope in finding one but there is was on the top shelf.
Had to get a stool to reach it but it was there waiting for me.
It's by Canson...here's the label in case someone out there wants one like it.
My first page...I always liked this photo of me as a little girl...of course it's one of maybe four that I have! I digitally framed it and added a victorian
initial page of "B's" behind it...scanned it and then change it's coloring to black and white.
Painted the page with my two favorite colors, turquoise and pink.
Stenciled over it, doodled, and added these little dots that I had left over from my kindle's decal skin. Added the ribbon and butterfly, rub-on word and the music "by the sea". I don't know why but I want to be by the ocean more this year. I feel like I need it's soothing powers right now.
Of course I had to sprinkle glitter over the whole page...pinks, turquoise, and silver.
Used silver stickle to make the year.

I hope it's happy. My mom has been ill and it's so hard to see her go from bad to worse to good again and to bad again....it's a cycle that isn't most likely going to change. I have to accept that and be thankful for each day but it is a constant roller coaster ride.
I hope to use my journal to find some solace time, to find a place to run away to and give in to that need of just letting my inside out. I don't know what each page will bring. No rules or promises or obligations...but I hope
to do whatever and maybe share a page now and then.

Betzie, I have that very same journal and I love it! Yea for you!! Art journaling is so much fun and your first page is fantastic! I'm sure you'll fill your new journal with tons of beautiful pages of art.
Betzie, I'm so very sorry to hear that your mother has been ill. I know how hard that must be on you, and I will be holding you in my heart.
Love your journal, and that is a darling picture of you as a little girl. I hope that the journal will be you days of contentment as you write and craft your feelings with beautiful thoughts and images.

Hi Betzie--so good to see you! You and I are on the same adventure. I'm starting a journal this year, and this time I'm sticking with it!! You're starting off so well, and isn't it fun to do anything you want--just like a kid again!
I hope all is well with your Mom--my thoughts are with you.
