My dad turns 90 years young this week. Hard to believe....he's always been so young at heart and I never thought of him as "old" until the past few years. We had a birthday party for him last Saturday night for just family and he gave a speech, something he loves to do! I didn't inherit that gift from him at all! Basically, he told everyone that there are three things he feels he's done in his life that have gotten him this far. Here's his three little secrets to longevity:

-Be JOYFUL in everything you do.
*My dad is the most positive person I've ever met.*
-PRAY without ceasing.
*He says he prays constantly all day long about anything and everything.
-Give THANKS and count your blessings everyday.
I guess these are pretty simple and nothing earth shattering, but he truly practices them...not to forget to mention that he also has eaten BROCOLLI everyday of his life for the past thirty years!!!!

He still plays nine holes of golf once a month, weather permitting too!!! Yes, he hobbles now and has slowed way down...had a hip surgery that wasn't the best, but even with arthritus and a few aches and pains, he keeps moving. Exercises, plays bridge, goes to church, and is very active in his retirement home...everyone knows "John".
BUT, the most wonderful thing about my dad, is how much he loves my mom....she isn't as active or as physically able now to do much of anything. He waits on her hand and foot and is so sooooooooooo PATIENT with her. I can't tell you how much that has made me realize how truly great of a man he is and how much I love him.

This was the invitation I made for their 65th wedding anniversary party...just celebrated 68 years last July!!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love Always,
Betzie

Congrats to your father! Thanks for sharing his secrets of longevity. That's what I need! Great that you added the broccoli part. My uncle died last year at the age of 87. He ate one apple stone a day and told us that little stone was preventing him for getting cancer. Every time he told me: and it helps! And added until now!
He didn't die of cancer.
Yes, I mean the small seeds (you need one seed, not more!) inside the apple. I couldn't remember the word and we don't use the word seed for the apple, we use the word seed for wheat seed or violet seed. Prunes and cherries have stones in my language, and apples too! Sorry, it isn't always easy to find the right word, dictionaries are often very vague. If you speak any other language than your native you probably understand what I mean.
A very Happy Birthday to your Dad….
I too eat BROCOLLI everyday, cooked, raw in salads,
or as a snack…
Thanks for the secrets, I do give thanks everyday, it is the first thing
I do before I get up out of bed…

Your dad sounds like a wonderful person and someone I'd like to know. Happy Birthday to him and I hope he celebrates many more. I love his positive attitude.
Hi Betzie,
Happy Birthday to your wonderful Dad! He sounds like an amazing man. I loved what he said in his speech. Those three points are really the fountain of life. Of course that, and eating broccoli. LOL I love it too and while I don't eat it everyday, I may start!!
Your Father reminds me a of my own Dad who passed away in 98. I miss him everyday. God Bless your dear Mother too and it is lovely to know how your Dad takes care of her. True love in action and so very sweet. Please give them a hug from me.
Thank you for sharing this special birthday of your Dad.
Hope you are doing well Betzie and had a great summer. I will see you again soon.
Hugs and Blessings to you sweetie,
Celestina Marie
How sweet is that ! I love the old pictures of your Dad! You are so lucky to have them both for so long!
Good Morning Dear Friend, Always great to see you and thank you for stopping by.
Sounds like you are going to have some fun in your kitchen too. Love to see the fabric you are using for the valances. I just made some too for my little library, in a blue toile. I will show those in another post.
You always inspire me. Thank you for your kind comments. I wish we lived closer. There would be a path between houses. LOL!!
Loved seeing the pics of your sweet dad again and reading his 3 best points for life. I think of this all the time, since I read it earlier.
Big hugs to you. Have a great day and creative week.
