Diamonds and dogs...a girl's best friends...

Another vintage German half doll that I wired to a small birdcage. I added a pink crepe paper skirt and some old old lace that I just love. It's that dainty delicate type and this was perfect to add the finishing touch to her dress. I intertwined the ribbon and tied a bow in the back. Fashioned her a simple hat and she was ready to party.

I love these old half dolls, and I also love making them into something new and useful. I thought this one was the perfect "Marie". She has such a serene air about her that speaks royalty! Also, note her aristocratic dog there...a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel of course! Actually the Cavaliers date back to the fifteen and sixteenth centuries so it is not at all impossible that Marie might have had one as a pet. I know in the movie she was seen with a Pug, which were often painted along with the Cavaliers in old paintings.

I colored in a black/white scene I found of her and added the words, "Not just any diamond necklace..." Added some borders consisting of rub ons, dresden, and ribbon. I loved how this scene just shows her from the nose down, without any eyes. Something about it just spoke to me and I hope it does to someone else as well.

Betzie, these glimpses into your Marie theater are just beautiful. You have obviously put a lot of time and creativity into this project and it shows. I love the doll in the previous post, and this one is also beautiful. I'm sure Marie had a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel....they're so cute how could she have resisted!
